Today is the day

I start my running regimen... all support is GREATLY Appreciated... now I have to work the diet in as well.. any suggestions for eating? snacks that arent too greeny/gritty/leafy....
do I change foods over to fat free??? low fat??? or does that increase sodium or something?
I have to give up the soda... that is my VICE.... and it has to go good bye... I am not going to switch to Diet because I worry about Diet and nursing my son.
ANY advice is appreciated... I do not want to be unhealthy ANY longer....
I need INEXPENSIVE and HEALTHY... and a swift kick in the butt...

Okay, diet... fat free isn't always the best. Sometimes the calorie content can be really high. The key to losing weight it to burn more calories than you eat. SO, you can cut your calorie content and start working out and the pounds will come off. Have you tried Coke Zero or something like that? I don't know if that would be any better than diet soda for nursing though. Remember, you have to start somewhere and it is a slow journey. Stick with it and you will see some amazing results. Let me know if you need anything!

Don't quit soda cold turkey. You'll never be able to stick to that. I think you should maybe allow yourself a glass a day, but limit it to that. Then drink water the rest of the time. As far as eating low fat isn't necessarily the best way. I think counting calories is good, but I'm bad at that. Honestly Weight Watchers might be good for you. They can tell you just how many points you'll need (especially since you're still nursing you'll still need extra calories) and then you'll know just how much to do. Portion control is always the big thing for me. Measuring out everything you eat and making sure it's just one serving will really help. And the exercise of course too. Good luck. I couldn't do running. I hate running. I just wish the local indoor pool here offered child care because I'd go there and swim laps everyday. I love swimming, but hard to do with three little ones.

Congratulations! Just making the commitment and setting a start date is half the battle. Be sure to blog about your experience as much as possible, it will help keep you accountable. If you haven't read some of my older posts about what's worked for me, you may want to take a look. I'm down 22.5 lbs in 10 weeks so far. I've been limiting calories(haven't counted, just trying to hit a target range) and I quit drinking soda cold turkey. I found that Propel fills that void, and I stock up when it's on sale. I started eating breakfast every day and limiting snacks to when I'm truly hungry between meals. At work I keep instant oatmeal, 100 calorie snacks, almonds, pretzels, popcorn and sometimes fruit at my desk.

After meeting with a nutrionist (I know that I spelt that wrong)...Here's the few things that I learned that I was doing wrong.

1. Change your carbs to whole grains as much as you can
2. Eat often...think small portions every 2-3 hours.
3. Balance proteins with starches..make sure you eat protein with every meal and snack
4. Increase the fiber

You asked about snacks... I do yogurt with dry roasted peanuts or almonds, fruit and cheese... fruit and nuts. 1/2 cup light ice cream..only once in a while.

Good luck!!
