Of course "some" of the girls backed out on attending tonite's meeting... we had a GREAT Time though... I find that the smaller troops with mom's who can relate to one another work best. I am hoping to have my girls be "Juliette" Girl scouts next year because we will have a hectic schedule with cheerleading... But I do not want a gap in the years the girls participate as scouts. So... we shall figure something out I am sure.
Today we worked on the "Listening to the Past" Try-it and sent the girls home with "homework" for the Plants try-it. So... the girls all got some seeds, a watering can and a seed starter thingie ma bob. It was late but I did plant the seeds with my girls tonite. So, Starting tonite, I will document my girls progress with their little seeds. We planted...
Garden Beans, Sunflowers of some sort, Marigold, Roma Tomato, Big Boy Tomato, Watermelon, Pumpkin, Bell Pepper Variety, Some other pepper for stuffing and Zinnias. So... THE RACE IS ON! We also did plant some seeds in to a jar type project.
For the listening to the past try it... we did some grave rubbings.. NO NOT GRAVE ROBBINGS.... One girl was apprehensive about doing it thinking it was going to be disrespectful but was able to warm up to the project... and of course once she was ok with doing it, Kiley decided she needed to go to the bathroom! AAARGH! IT was quite peaceful but when you look at how young people were ages ago when they died, it really makes you see how much you have outlived people... even when you are only 30 years old! There was also some memorial stone for someone who had died during the Civil War. Pretty cool....
One of the moms of the girls refurbishes old sewing machines... so she brought over one of the antique type machines and her new modern high end machine and showed the girls the differences between the two and how they have changed and the girls were very interested in checking out the COOL OLD one! Amazing how much better things were manufactured back in the day. Sturdy, Strong and Reliable! Everything now is made of plastic and in a factory that is forced to push the products to the shelves for the consumer... vs. years ago.. making not as many and having them be better quality!

I'm going to have to do the "Listening to the Past" try-it next year with my troop. We have a historic cemetery right down the street. I LAUGHED when I read the grave robbing vs. grave rubbing! Too funny!!
I sooooooo know what you mean about wishing certain girls would become Juliettes! Ugh.
Have you received your cookie incentives yet? Ours are in but some troops are missing some of theirs. What a pain!
Sounds interesting. Isn't it amazing how everything this year is replacable? Years ago things actually lasted. It's kind of sad. We won't have anything around 100 years from now to show what life was like for us.
We had girl scouts last night too. We're finishing up our Eco Explorer try it. So we had the girls make some Food Chains. We talked about a habitat and what it is. Then we were going outside to gather up some brush to help small animals, but some of the parents were already there. So we let the girls run around and of course one of the daughters of my PITA parents had to slide across the parking lot (also the playground at the school). Wonderful! I was right there and ran right up to her and she kept saying I'm okay I'm okay and then blood pouring from her elbow and she's still going I'm okay. I had to bring her to my car (where I had the first aid kit) to patch her up. And as I'm doing that her dad comes walking up. At least he was pretty understanding about it. He said he was just going to throw her in the tub and clean her all up real good. I did clean it out and get a band aid on it though. I'm waiting for the mom to call up and yell at me though.
