Denison Pequotsepos with Girl Scouts

Last Saturday I signed our troop up to go to the denison pequotsepos nature center in Mystic, CT. We earned our Eco-explorer try-it and the girls had an AWESOME time. I had never been to the nature center before and really had not even heard much about it.. but let me tell you.. we WERE missing out. Ashley LOOOOVED the place... Sydney liked it but wasnt quite as enthusiastic as Ashley was. They have a bunch of trails to wander and a pond to peek in. They have a bunch of different programs and if I was RICH I would send Kiley to the pre-school they have there. But, it is QUITE pricey. The nature center taught us a bit about the Box Turtle which is an endangered species. SO people! LISTEN UP... STOP building MORE homes when there are PLENTY on the market! Box turtles can not live in water. They are a land turtle. And as we build homes, we push them out of their homes and they can't live when we keep ruining their natural habitat! We got to see a cute little box turtle and the girl who ran the program even brought a snake out for the girls to check out.. not my cup of tea but I DID feel the skin on the snake and that was pretty cool... but should I find one in my yard or something, I better have a spade available... or a lawnmower! haha! We saw some Coyote poo... reminds me of the book I have for the girls from Yellowstone "Who Pooped in the Park". So, if you are in the area and enjoy nature, trail walking and everything else outdoors... check out the Denison Center...

Last year I took the girls to Petco and they got to touch a snake too. I was brave to get Natalie to touch it and touched it too, but if I ever were to see another one again I'd be running in that other direction ;). By the way, Petco does free field trips. It wasn't half bad of a trip either.

Thanks for letting Kenners come along. She had a blast and I have had to listen all about the poor box turtles. I had no idea! And she loved the snake! :)
